LOVE AFTER LOVE
The time
will come
when, with
elation
you will
greet yourself arriving
at your own
door, in your own mirror
and each
will smile at the other's welcome,
and say,
sit here. Eat.
You will
love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine.
Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself,
to the stranger who has loved you
all your
life, whom you ignored
for
another, who knows you by heart.
Take down
the love letters from the bookshelf,
the
photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your
own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast
on your life.

DE AMOR
El tiempo ha de venir
cuando, con regocijo,
te irás a saludar a ti mismo llegando
ante tu propia puerta, en tu propio espejo,
y los dos sonreirán ante la bienvenida.
Y dirás siéntate aquí. Come.
Vas a amar de nuevo al
extraño que tú fuiste.
Dale vino. Dale pan.
Devuelve a él tu corazón,
al extraño que te ha amado
toda la vida, a aquel
al que ignoraste
por algún otro, quien te conoce de verdad.
Toma las cartas
de amor de los estantes,
las fotografías, las
notas desesperadas,
despega tu propia imagen del espejo.
Siéntate. Festeja con tu vida.
